WHAT IS AFFECT OF LIGHTNING STRIKE IN AIRCRAFT - THE AVIATION

 LIGHTNING STRIKE

... just have a look on the numbers 🙄

Aircraft are likely to be affected by lightning strike.

Lightning is an electrical discharge in the atmosphere, very similar to a spark.

The current rises from 10000 A up to more than 100000 A in between 0.01s up to 2s .

The voltage for an intensity around 30000 A may rise up to

100 million V.

The air temperature around the lightning strike is around 30000

degrees (5 times the sun temperature).

So, structure and systems must be protected against this event.

Lightning is a phenomenon that is impossible to control, hence

airplanes must be protected to avoid serious damage.

Any aircraft gets struck by lightning (1 – 2 times per year)

Lightning: a high level current injected on the aircraft structure Lightning strike current : 10000 to more than 100000 A Duration 0.01s up to 2s .

Voltage for 30000 A may rise up to 100 million V.

Air temperature around the lightning strike: around 30000 degrees

(5 times the sun temperature).
